PU organizes moot on democracy, governance, sustainability


LAHORE: (Wednesday, May 15, 2024): Punjab University Department of Political Science has organized a two-day hybrid international conference on “Democracy, Governance and Sustainability”. In this regard the inaugural ceremony was held at Al Raazi Hall on Wednesday in which senior journalist Mujib-ur-Rehman Shami, Vice Chancellor Minhaj University Lahore Dr Sajid Mehmood Shehzad, Executive Director Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future Khalid Taimur Akram, Chairperson Department of Political Science Prof Dr Iram Khalid, faculty members, researchers and students were present. The speakers at the conference talked about the idea of democratic practices and governance. The idea that democratic norms are under revision not only in the East but also in the West was also highlighted. The conference sessions delved into use of technology and artificial intelligence and use of information management in this day and age. In her address, Dr Iram Khalid lauded Prof Dr Rehana Saeed Hashmi and her team for organizing a fruitful conference. She said that the conference has more than 90 national and international research papers and encompasses a wide variety of topics ranging from sustainable development through artificial intelligence to the role of institutions and organizations in maintaining democratic institutionalism in Pakistan and the world.
