Public universities catering to needs of special persons: PU VC

LAHORE: (Wednesday, December 03, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said that public universities are producing trained human resource for special persons and taking care of their several needs, and everyone must understand that special children are a blessing for us. He was addressing a ceremony organized by the Punjab University Child Welfare Center (CWC) in connection with the ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ here on Wednesday.

On this occasion, Member Punjab Assembly Syeda Salma Saeed Hashmi, Director Institute of Special Education Dr Humaira Bano, In-charge CWC Dr Ayesha Wajih Ullah, CEO Allah Wala Trust Shahid Lone, faculty members, special children and their parents were present. Special children presented national song based on Operation Banyan Marsoos and Sufi Kalam. Children from Surtaal Academy were awarded by PU VC Dr Muhammad Ali for their beautiful performance on Sufi Kalam. The special children also dressed in traditional attire representing all provinces of Pakistan and highlighted Punjabi culture as well through their performance. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that he was very happy to see the performance of special children, and he is even friends with some of them. He said that these children should be trained in such a way that they can live a normal life. He added that public universities are playing their role in balancing society by supporting non-commercial disciplines. He said that PU takes care of special children just like parents do. Salma Hashmi said that PU has organized an excellent event to highlight the abilities of special children. She said that we care deeply about special children and love them immensely. She said their performance was very impressive and it feels as though they are very talented. She added that the deficiency is not in special children, but in us. She said that if we provide acceptance and opportunities to these children, they can become an important part of society. Dr Humaira Bano said that we must understand the needs of special children. She said that strong willpower is needed to nurture the talents of persons with disabilities in society. She added that the efforts of parents and teachers are making special children active members of society. She said that education and basic facilities are also the right of special children, and that their teachers are training them according to international standards. Dr Ayesha Wajih Ullah said that it is extremely important to provide a supportive environment for special children. She said that if special children are given facilities, they can play a significant role in the development of society. She added that we must appreciate the abilities and confidence of special children.
